Glossary - English

ActiveX

A Microsoft programming architecture that allows programs to interact with other programs over a network, such as the Internet. The controls created with ActiveX enable developers to add extra capabilities to Web sites, such as animation or video controls. Because ActiveX can be written to interact with your local file system, ActiveX controls are normally blocked by default, unless you set them to be 'trusted'. Some browsers, such as Firefox, require an additional plugin to show ActiveX controls.

Adobe Flash Player

Adobe Flash Player is software for viewing animations and videos using computer programs such as a web browser.

ADSL

A technology that allows more data to be sent over existing copper telephone lines (POTS). ADSL data transfer rates are faster than dial-up modem, and can support live streaming of online video.
